Summary:

The Billing Specialist at Brightwater Health will navigate insurance and client billing. They help with preparing, reviewing, approving, and mailing invoices to various insurance companies.


Duties:

- Process and balance insurance and client payments in the patient billing system.

- Review, release and submit electronic claims.

- Review and mail client statements.

- Verify insurance eligibility and following up on overdue or denied insurance claims.

- Following up on missing prior authorizations

- Responding to client phone calls with account questions

- Prepare, review, approve, and mail invoices to various insurance companies.

- Utilize the following computer programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Carelogic, and insurance websites as needed.

- Monitor and fix failed claims with Billing Supervisor support.

- Run weekly and monthly reports relating to services provided in our community support programs to make sure we are providing and collecting reimbursements under the correct program and funding source.

- Review and complete billing adjustments related to grants and write offs.

- Monitor and fix the self-pay report.

- Manage grant reporting related to client data spreadsheets.

- Review and track EAP billing.

- Respond to phone calls about account questions, verify insurance eligibility, prepare/mail miscellaneous invoices.

- Insurance verification.

- Verifying and obtaining prior authorizations when needed.

- Attend meetings and other training seminars essential to billing, outpatient mental health and Brightwater health.

- Agency Target Case Management Billing.

- Entering and monitoring client accounts with our collection agency.


Minimum Qualifications:

- Moderate knowledge of health insurance plans.

- 1-3 years' experience working with health insurance and an understanding of common health insurance terminology.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months of related experience.

- Typing 35 WPM, 10-key, good communication skills.


Desired Qualifications:

- One to 3 years' experience, knowledge or related training of health insurance, experience working with the public, ability to work in a fast-paced work environment, ability to prioritize workload, knowledge of insurance and claims/billing, good communication skills.

- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
